Honor Card
At the Urban Ministry Center we have a holiday tradition that captures the true spirit of the season. Each year, we select a piece of original artwork from our ArtWorks 945 program to create a holiday greeting card -- our Honor Card. A portion of your donation goes directly to the artist and the remainder supports the many basic services and life-changing programs we offer year-round. We are happy to hand address and mail your Honor Cards as well -- our gift to you this holiday season.
2009 cards (shown here) are now available. Orders can be placed anytime by one of two ways; emailing your list of names and complete addresses to Beth Galen, Administrative Assistant or download the form by clicking here and mailing it to the address below. Please tell us how to sign your name on the card. To make your donation, please go to Donate Online and list Honor Card in the memo field.
This is a free will donation, and even when asked we hesitate to suggest what your donation should be. We can say, however, that the average donation per card last year was $18.00.

This year's card features, Uptown, by Willie Gray (pictured here). Determination, pride and dignity best describe Willie Gray, our honor card artist for 2009. At the Urban Ministry Center, we never cease to be amazed at the creativity that arises out of hardship. Originally from Marion, NC, Willie came to Charlotte looking for a new beginning after a downturn in the textile industry. But the new beginning ended in job loss and homelessness. Willie came to the Urban Ministry Center for help and direction. He also found our ArtWorks 945 program, which allowed him to transform his experiences into extraordinary works of art. Willie’s unique depictions of Charlotte’s urban landscape are full of light and life. His strong strokes and vibrant colors reflect a future of hope, promise and joy.
We are proud to have Willie Gray as our 2009 honor card artist. Willie will receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the card.
Thank you. Your financial support makes a real and immediate difference in the lives of Charlotte's homeless community.
